about

Onward is a new piano jazz trio EP from Australian multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Benjamin Harrison.

About the recording, Benjamin says “With Onward, I wanted to create a smaller, more intimate recording than my past production-heavy jazz fusion releases, and in doing so try to really capture my love and feeling of the classic jazz trio performing in the setting of a late night jazz club.”

Onward includes five original compositions by Benjamin plus an arrangement of the gospel hymn ‘His Eye is on The Sparrow’ featuring special guest vocalist and Benjamin’s wife Alessandra Gonzalez, whom he met on tour while performing with Cirque du Soleil. Also joining Benjamin on this album are drummer Matias Menarguez from Argentina and double bassist Oli Hayhurst from the United Kingdom, known for his work with legendary saxophonist Pharoah Sanders.

The tracks on Onward were all recorded remotely, yet the cohesiveness of the recordings highlights the sensitivity and musicality of the musicians involved.

A successful crowd funding campaign run on Kickstarter also allowed Benjamin to have the album mixed and mastered by acclaimed engineer Simon Cotsworth, whose extensive production credits include George Benson, Jamie Cullum and UK acid jazz group Incognito.
